We need to do this
It has been a good day so far. The day started with me getting my pay check for the first week of internship. Then, I had a meeting from 12 to 2 with the engineering group of the company and what will be a better place for meeting than a nice restaurent where u have appetizer, sandwiches, icecream, and ofcourse the coke.
After lunch, I was sort of planning for the long weekend. I am going to Atlanta with two other interns tomorrow. I am excited as have never been to a big city (Raleigh and Knoxville both are smaller). But, I am not fearful as I was when I left for Delhi in july 2003 to join coke. I still remmeber I was kind of lost when I got down from Rajdhani express in New Delhi, nearer to ....(Till date am not sure of those two exits at NDLS). The reason is very simple. For my Atlanta trip, I can print the maps with driving cirections of the area at www.mapquest.com. It really helps.
But what does one do if he plans to go from Pune to Bombay for a long weekend and he has been not to Bombay before. I think I might advice those guys to visit

This is link to a software "Mumbai Navigator" which has been developed by Prof. Abhiram Ranade and his students in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay. This is what I call making positive impact on the people around us. The software is not that fancy as I use in USA. But it is quite neat and helpful for planing to go anywhere in Bombay.
What if the same person plans to go to Delhi for summer vacation (Though thats not the best time to go to Delhi, but what if his girl friend is in Delhi). Then we need to find someone like Prod. Ranade in Delhi who will do this kind of project for the betterment of society.
We need to do this not only for Delhi, but for all the places of India then only someone from small city like Begusarai wont be fearful to go to big cities for the first time.
