My teaching philosophy
Prior to this evening, I had almost forgotten about the application, I had to submit for “Certificate of accomplishment in teaching”. This is a program started at NC state univ to prepare the graduate students for professorships. I was glad to see that I had to fill only a two page form, but gladness evaporated when I saw the last part of the form. I had to attach my teaching and learning philosophy along with application in 250 words. Tough job ahead for me.
Therefore, evening went into brooding over this and I realized that it is really important to have one's own philosophy to teach students something which they can remeber for a while. To an extent, I know how I would like to teach students 5 years down the line. But, I am unable to express those in 250 words in a manner which impresses the Assistant director Faculty centre for teaching and learning.
My teaching philosophy will be very simple. Teach in a manner that even a person remotely connected to the topic can grasp things you are explaining. How does one do that? Let me try to explain. This is how I will go about teaching three laws of thermodynamics to a class of students.
First law - “For keeping fit u need to burn calories which is equivalent to energy is conserved”.
Second law - “The tummy of a boy who doesn’t go to Gym (Like me :)) will either remain the same or will increase which is equivalent to increase of entropy with a spontaneous process.”
Third law - “It is impossible to burn the whole tummy after getting it once by any amount of workout which is equivalent to entropy of zero is not possible.
Isn’t my teaching philosophy neat - relating topics of the subject with real world things which the students can easily correlate? Lets hope I am able to put this philosphy nicely in those 250 words and send the application before the deadline of 12 june.

I liked tis very much...........though expalained very lightly and neatly, it has many serious deep thoughts attached.....great to c u grow as such a writer.....rather a PHILOSOPHER.
Yeah sure!!!U can see me grow as a writer and professor with the same kind of teaching philosphy. My advisor's comment I remember,"Prabhat I want my teachings to have some, if not much, positive impact on their life". Its always nice to have ur encouraging comments.
I am sure you will be a great professor in life. Seriously if I had professors who had such a nice and simple way of explaining things...I would be topping my classes like you do..... Well your philosophy is great!! All the best and keep writing ...u can even write a book about anything you r interested in and I am sure your book will be famous because of your writing style!!
